The Grants Rotary Club held a Pints for Polio event at the Junkyard Brewery on March 16. The Rotary club raised $195 by selling rotary cups that individuals could use for beer pints. Rotary International is one of the founding partners of the Global Polio Eradiation Initiative and they have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since their first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children from Polio. Polio itself is a virus that may cause paralysis and is easily preventable by the polio vaccine. Polio is transmitted through contaminated water and food or contact with someone who is infected by Polio.
