As the deadline for voter registration in Cibola County approaches on May 7, residents are urged to ensure their voter status is up to date to exercise their fundamental rights in the upcoming elections. However, even if individuals miss this crucial deadline, there's still a viable solution: Same-Day Voter Registration (SDR).

SDR is a tool in New Mexico's voting system that allows eligible voters to register or update their voter registration right before casting their ballots during Early Voting and on Election Day itself. This ensures that no eligible voter is left out of the democratic process due to missed deadlines.

The deadline to register for the June Primary Election is May 7.

Who is Eligible for SDR?

Any eligible voter in New Mexico can take advantage of SDR, regardless of their registration status, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria to vote. This includes both unregistered voters and those looking to update their voter information.

SDR is conveniently available at designated locations:

• Cibola County Clerk’s Office (700 Roosevelt Ave Suite 50, Grants, NM)

• Polling locations on Election Day

What Documents are Needed for SDR?

To use SDR, voters must provide one of the following:

• New Mexico driver’s license or identification card issued through the motor vehicle division of the taxation and revenue department.

• Any document containing an address in the county along with a photo identification card.

• A current valid student photo identification card from a post-secondary educational institution in New Mexico accompanied by a current student fee statement containing the student’s address in the county. For those voters registered as not having a political party or with a minor party, who wish to participate in Primary Elections, SDR offers a pathway. By visiting designated locations, they can update their registration to one of the major parties, enabling them to vote in the Primary Election. After voting, individuals can revert to their previous registration status online at NMVOTE.ORG.
