Girls wrestling regionals were held last weekend at Capital High School in Santa Fe.

Three Grants High School wrestlers placed 6th in their weight class and are headed to the state wrestling tournament and a 4th wrestler, Jaylene Morin, a junior, wrestling at 152-pounds. earned a wild card entry.

Reyna Valdez placed 6th after losing her 5th place match to Cheyenne Yellow 18-9 (Aztec) by a fall 4:44 in the 120lb. weight class.

Skye Shondee wrestling (23-10), a senior, placed 6th after a defeat in the 5th place match to Ava Gomez (10–11) of Rio Rancho High School in 4-2 decision in the185lb. weight class.

Danika Wilson, a freshman, placed 6th after a defeat by Anaya Lee of Farmington High School in a 8-2 decision in the 185-pound bout.

The GHS girls wrestling team placed 16th with 41 points out of 29 schools who participated.

In addition, the GHS boys wrestling team had 2 wrestlers place at the Rio Rancho Freshman and Sophomore tournament over the weekend. Douglas Mitchell, a sophomore, placed 2nd in the 180-189 lb. weight class. Also, Kiernen Bell placed 2nd in the 185-205-pound weight class.
