Primary Election 2020 results

CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – The citizens of New Mexico went out to make their voices heard on June 2, and those that did not go out made their voices heard from home by voting absentee in the primary presidential election of 2020.

The winners of the primary election are below, races which had a challanger from multiple parties will have multiple winners, those winners will face off for election in November.

County Commissioner

The winners for Cibola County Commission District 4 are:

Democrat ballot: Daniel J. Torrez (incumbent)

Republican ballot: Daniel R. Stock Sr.

The winners for Cibola County Commission District 4 are:

Republican ballot: Robert Scott Windhorst (incumbent)

Democrat ballot: Jerry S. Wilcox

Cibola County District 5 is:

Democrat ballot: Martha Garcia (incumbent; Garcia is the only candidate for this office.)

Cibola County Clerk

The winner of the Cibola County Clerk primary election is:

Democrat ballot: Michelle E. Dominguez (incumbent; Dominguez is the only candidate for this office.)

Cibola County Treasurer

No Republican or Libertarian candidates are running for this office, the winner of this primary election is:

Democrat ballot: Kathy Lente Gonzales

State Representative District 6

This N.M. House district serves the western half of Cibola County, the winners of the primary election for the house of representatives in District 6 are:

Democrat ballot: Eliseo L. Alcon (incumbent)

Republican ballot: Karen Vanessa Chavez

State Representative District 69

This N.M. House district serves the eastern half of Cibola County, the winners for the house district 69 primary election are:

Democrat ballot: Harry Garcia (incumbent)

Republican ballot: Roy Randall Ryan

State Senator District 30

This N.M. Senate district serves the eastern half of Cibola County. In what was a very heated race with thousands of dollars spent to sway voters, the winners of the State Senator District 30 primary race are:

Democrat: Pamela Cordova

Republican: Joshua A. Sanchez

State Senator District 4

This N.M. Senate district serves the western half of Cibola County, the winners for State Senator District 4’s primary election are:

Democrat ballot: George K. Munoz

Republican ballot: Angela R. Olive

13th Judicial District Attorney

The winners for the District Attorney race are:

Democrat ballot: Barbara A Romo

Republican ballot: Joshua Joe Jimenez

State District Court judges

There are three judges up for election. None of the three judges have a Republican challenger, the winners are:

13th Judicial District Division 4: Democrat Amanda Sanchez Villalobos

13th Judicial District Division 5: Democrat James A. Noel

13th Judicial District Division 7: Democrat Chris G. Perez

State Court of Appeals Judge

The winners for the Court of Appeals judgeships are:

Democrat ballot: Zach Ives (incumbent)

Republican ballot: Barbara V. Johnson

Court of Appeals Position 2:

Democrat ballot: Shammara H. Henderson (incumbent)

Republican ballot: Gertrude Lee

Libertarian ballot: Stephen P. Curtis

State Supreme Court Judges

The winners for the Supreme Court judgeships are:

Republican ballot: Ned S. Fuller

Supreme Court position 2:

Democrat ballot: David K. Thompson (incumbent)

Republican ballot: Kerry J. Morris

United States Representative

With a Republican primary that turned into a battle to see who supports the incumbent president of the United States the most, this seat was hotly contested in 2018 as Democrats fought to gain control of the territory for the first time since 2011. Democrats did not challenge the incumbent for this race. The winners of this primary race are:

Democrat: Xochitl Torres Small (incumbent)

Republican: Yvette Herrell

United States Senator

Incumbent Senator Tom Udall announced last year that he would not be running for reelection which opened the seat for many competitors. The winners of the primary election for this seat are:

Democrat ballot: Ben Ray Lujan

Republican ballot: Mark Ronchetti

Libertarian ballot: Bob Walsh

United States President

When the primary season began the Democrat field was massive but dropped to only one active competitor to face the Republican incumbent. Despite this, many of the names of Democrats who were running are still on the ballot with a chance to gain delegates to make a case that they should be the Democrat to face the incumbent Republican for this office. The winners of this race are:

Democrat ballot: Joseph Biden
