Citizen Staff Report

Election night 2019 came to a close when the New Mexico polls closed at 7 p.m.

Several items were voted on by citizens across Cibola County. Depending on what district or zone you lived in, you may or may not have had certain items on your ballot that another person did.

Here are the unofficial results as they stand as of Nov. 5 at 10:15 p.m. with the Cibola Citizen’s call of the races.

Ballot measures

There were three ballot measures voted on by members of Cibola County, they were:

Shall Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages by the drink for consumption on the licensed premises of licensees be allowed in this local option district?  | YES – 40.12 Percent, NO – 59.88 Percent | This ballot measure failed.

General Obligation School Bond Question: Shall the Board of Education of the Grants/Cibola County School District No. 1, County of Cibola, State of New Mexico, be authorized to issue general obligation bonds of the District, in one series or more, in the aggregate principal amount not exceeding $10, 000, 000, for the purpose of erecting, remodeling, making additions to and furnishing school buildings, purchasing or improving school grounds, purchasing computer software and hardware for student use in public schools, providing matching | YES – 78.39 Percent, NO – 21.61 Percent | This ballot measure passed.

Valencia Soil & Water Conservation District Mill Levy Question: Shall the Valencia Soil & Water Conservation District (VSWCD) impose an assessment of $1.00 per $1000.00 of net taxable value of property pursuant to Soil and Water Conservation District Act Sections 73-20-25 to 73-20-48 NMSA 1978 for the following purposes: Addressing district administrative and operational needs; growing financial and technical programs for local farms and community gardens; implementing habitat restoration in the Whitfield Wildlife Complex Area; expanding Whitfield education | YES – 35.67 Percent, NO – 64.33 Percent | This ballot measure failed.

School Board

There were two positions up for school board, Position 4 and Position 5.

Position 4: Richard Wade Jones – 100 Percent of the vote, 216 ballots won. | This candidate wins.

Poition 5: Guy Pierre Archambeau – 100 Percent of the vote, 290 ballots won. | This candidate wins.

Soil and Water Supervisor 1

There were two candidates vying for soil and water supervisor 1

Roman Dennis Sandoval – 62.6 Percent of the vote, 544 ballots won. | This candidate wins.

Michael E. Stogner – 37.4 percent of the vote, 325 votes won.

Soil and Water Supervisor 2

There was one candidate for this position, because it was a write-in the votes will be tallied at a later time.

Christine A. Loeffler (write in) – 0 percent of the vote, 0 votes won. | Too early to tell – votes still being counted.

Soil and Water Supervisor 5

There were two candidates in this race.

Kit K. South – 53.66 Percent of the vote, 477 votes won. | This candidate wins.

Freddie I. Padilla – 46.34 Percent of the vote, 412 votes won.

McKinley Soil and Water Supervisor 1

There was one candidate in this race.

Dudley D. Byerley – 100 Percent of the vote, 2,406 votes won. | This candidate wins.

McKinley Soil and Water Supervisor 5

There were two candidates for this election.

Herbert B. Mosher – 55.11 Percent of the vote, 1,488 votes won. | This candidate wins.

Gerald Alois Henke – 44.89 Percent of the vote, 1,212 votes won.

There were four seats open in this contest, with four candidates running.

Larry W. Carver – 28.34 Percent of the vote, 428 votes won. | This candidate wins a seat.

Carl R. Elkins – 30.40 Percent of the vote, 459 votes won. | This candidate wins a seat.

Jamie Holton – 20.46 Percent of the vote, 309 votes won. | This candidate wins a seat.

Rex L. Robinson – 20.79 Percent of the vote, 314 votes won. | This candidate wins a seat.

Water and Sanitation Director Positions 1-3

There were three seats open in this contest, with five candidates running.

Paul L. Spencer – 31.48 Percent of the vote, 51 votes won. | This candidate wins a seat.

Earl S. Hassell – 30.86 Percent of the vote, 50 votes won. | This candidate wins a seat.

Sharon Marie Holley – 9.26 Percent of the vote, 15 votes won.

Mike Allen Horton – 9.88 Percent of the vote, 16 votes won.

Patty Lopez – 18.52 Percent of the vote, 30 votes won. | This candidate wins a seat.
