The Historic Route 66 Fall Fiesta nears

October 13-14, are set aside for the annual Historic Route 66 Fall Festival. Scheduled events include authentic food and music, a Battle of the Bands, a kids’ fun jumper zone, craft beers, arts and crafts vendors, entertaining games and contests, an amateur green chile stew eating contest, including a Battle of the Badges stew eating contest, a cornhole competition, a cake decorating contest and a show and shine car show.

The festival will take place at the City Hall and Fire & Ice Park located on Historic Route 66 in Grants, N.M. Family activities include getting creative and painting a pumpkin, chalk the walk, kid jumper zone and other events, hosted by Future Foundations Family Center. There will be free admission and tours to the New Mexico Mining Museum from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

The Battle of the Bands competition will be judged to determine the winning band based on performance, songwriting, audience reaction and overall energy. The winner will earn a spot as the opening act for next year’s Fall Fiesta and a cash prize. This year’s battle is featuring local act 12 Bar Bruise, which appeared at the Fourth of July Extravaganza. The event will run from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Fire & Ice Park Along with our Battle of the Bands, last year’s champions, the Garage Pirates will perform on Sunday. An All-Wheels Show & Shine Car Show alongside the Mother Road Route 66 will run from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at City Hall Park. Early registration is available now at and same day registration will be available for last minute entries. A goodie bag and a cruise down Route 66 is included.
