Braulia Landavazo Garcia
Catholic services for Braulia Landavazo Garcia, age 100, of Grants, New Mexico will be held at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. Viewing will be at 6 pm on November 6, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be at 10 am on Thursday, November 7, immediately followed by a burial at the Grants cemetery.
Braulia was born on January 21, 1919 in Atarque, N.M. to Guillermo and Adelaida Landavazo and passed away on November 3, 2019 in Grants, N.M. She graduated high school and attended one semester of college at the University of Albuquerque before she returned home to help with the family ranch.
As a young woman, she became the postmaster in Atarque and later married Albert Garcia in Zuni, N.M. She and her husband raised seven children. During those years she was the bookkeeper for their business. In later years, Braulia was an active member of the Grants Senior Citizens Center. During this time, she volunteered her time and expertise in the area of ceramics, quilting, painting, macramé, and other crafts to the patrons of the center. She was also very involved in the Senior Olympics and represented Cibola County many times at the state games. She had a passion and green thumb for gardening which was evident by the abundance of flowers and foliage in her yard. She also enjoyed traveling both nationally and internationally.
Braulia is survived by her children: Clarissa Guzman and her husband Ruben of Pueblo, Colorado, Ida Chavez of Grants, N.M., Monico Garcia and wife Sofie of Novato, California, Rita Kelly of Las Cruces, N.M., Marcella Sandoval and husband Charlie of San Mateo, N.M., and Michael Garcia of San Mateo, N.M.; and her brother Albert Landavazo and wife Sostena of Aurora, C.O.
Her family legacy also includes 21 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, 53 great great-grandchildren, and 9 great great great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband Albert Garcia; her children: Bernadita Garcia and Albert Pete Garcia; her grandson Joe Guzman III; her father Guillermo Landavazo; her mother Adelaida Landavazo; her stepmother Lola Landavazo; and siblings Fred Landavazo, Anita Montano, Leo Landavazo, Fidela Mazon, Porfirio Landavazo, Alberto Landavazo, Carmen Landavazo, Daniel Landavazo, Aniceto Landavazo and Eugene Landavazo.
Pall Bearers will be all her grandsons: Ruben Guzman, Pete Garcia, Wayne Chavez, Albert Garcia, Glen Sandoval, Pablo Kelly, and Michael Garcia.
