Harry Gene Little
A celebration of Harry Gene Little’s life will take place on Jan. 11, 2020 from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1010 Bondad Avenue, Grants, New Mexico.
Harry Gene Little, age 85, of Grants, N. M., died from complications after a long illness of Parkinson’s Disease on December 29, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his family.
Harry was born February 18, 1934, in Roaring Spring, Pennsylvania, the son of Wilbur and Kathryn (Metzger) Little. He is the brother of Jim (Kimmy), John (Sandy) and Jane (Ron) Little. His family moved to Iowa in 1947. He graduated from West Branch High School in Iowa in 1952, and from Iowa State University in Ames, IA, in 1960 in Forestry.
He was employed by the USDA Forest Service from 1960 to 1985. He worked in Burns and Bend, Oregon, in Lakeside and Wilcox, Arizona, in Albuquerque, N.M., and he retired from Prescott, Arizona., specializing in forest and range management. During his retirement years in Grants, N.M., Harry was a sports activities and Elder-hostel bus driver for 12 years. Harry has been married to Ro (Ellsworth) for 38 years.
Harry was an avid runner and cyclist from the age of 43 to his last major event at age 72 and he competed in over 400 races during his life. He has run 25 marathons and competed in the Mt. Taylor Winter Quadrathlon 18 times.
He was preceded in death by his daughter: Kathy Gronvold; his brother: John; and his daughter-in-law: Laurie Eash.
He is survived by four children: David (Karen) and Duane (Georgia) Eash, John (Diana) Little and Joyce Armijo from previous marriages. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and-nephews.
The family is grateful to Compassus for their service and support and excellent care, wonderful neighbors and for all others who offered support.
