Marcella Blacklock passed away with friends and family at her bedside on July 31, 2019 after a brief illness. A rosary for Marcella Blacklock was held on Sunday, August 4 and memorial services were held on Monday at the San Rafael Catholic Church in San Rafael, New Mexico. We thank all the friends and family who shared their thoughts, prayers, stories, time, food and condolences with us.
Marcella was born in 1933 in San Rafael to Pedro and Francisquita Gallegos. She graduated from Grants High School in 1951. She worked at several local businesses in her youth; she met and married her husband of 60 years, Robert Blacklock, in Grants as well.
She and Robert moved to Arizona and Texas, raising their children to adulthood before returning to Grants in 1989. She maintained close relationships through her life with her brother, sisters, family and friends.
Our families spent many years hunting and camping in the New Mexico outdoors. She was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. No one was a stranger to Marcella, and she was a motherly influence to many and a hero to her children. We will miss her kind and loving care and her humor, good sense and boundless energy.
She was preceded in death by brothers: Solomon and Ambrosio Gallegos; sisters: Romelia Artuleta, Mary Young and Rosie Baca.
She is survived by her sister: Josie Mills; as well as her children: Walter and Thomas Blacklock, Gayle Haro and Bazetta Black-lock; her grandchildren Erin and Mark Sullivan and Sean Blacklock; three great grandchildren: Drue, Connor and Harper; and numerous nieces and nephews and many other beloved family members and many friends.
