Services for Melvin Darby will be Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019 at 11 a.m. with burial at EI Morro Cemetery and memorial services at 3 p.m. at Grants Cow Palace, Grants, New Mexico. There will be someone there at the Cow Palace to receive any food that might be brought while the family is at the cemetery. The family would like to give thanks for all your outpouring of prayers and condolences they have and continue to receive.
Melvin Leroy Darby, 73, was born No. 23, 1945 to Jesse James Darby, father, and Margie Dena Willcox Darby, mother. Melvin passed away at his Rio Rancho, N.M., home on Aug. 22, 2019.
Mel was a true cowboy, living life as a man where your word is your bond, you were to do the right thing, respect women, children and animals. Watch your language, and most of all, he detested a liar. He loved his family and his friends, and we loved him, and he will be missed.
He is survived by siblings; brother: James Darby, (wife Debra June); sister: Lilly Ramsey; sister: Debra Mae Darby; sister: Estlee Dominguez, (husband Billy Dominguez); sister: Donna Elkins, (husband Jody Elkins); and brother: Jason (Jake) Darby. He is also survived by his children; son: Spurlin Darby; and son: Ty Darby; Mel also has a granddaughter: Tyra Dale; and great-grandson: Jasper who he thought the world of.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, a brother and his maternal and paternal grandparents, and his grandson: Jesse Quaid Darby.
Pallbearers are his nephews: Levi Darby, Cory Polen, Brian Ramsey, Eric Ramsey, Stuart Polen, Joshua Elkins. Zachary Darby and Isaac Darby.
Honorary pallbearers are: Jim Strickland, Wayne Harris, Robert Weathers, Ben Chavez, Lenny Trujillo and Larry Harris, Mel's best friend (deceased).
