Trailing off

Of rodents and men

The Zuni Mountains got a dusting of snow Saturday night but by Monday morning it had melted off. The fire danger signs still read “high.” An overnight bag and briefcase with important paperwork are stacked just inside the door. But first and foremost, the cat carrier.

Then I got thinking I gathered too much firewood. I’ll likely change that tune in a few weeks, at best. I’m back to using an axe and bow saw. Shaky old guy using a chainsaw alone sure isn’t going to qualify for workman’s compensation, even if I make it to town to file a claim. I sure don’t want to be known as “Stumpy.”
