Pirates lose nail biter against Taos
With spirit sticks, packed stands, crisp fall weather and brandishing new red uniforms the Grants High School Pirates greeted the number one ranked team, the Taos Tigers who came in 5-0 and left 6-0 after by all accounts a very exciting nail biter of a football game. The Tigers went home with the “W” and stay undefeated and as for the Pirates, they were able to give the Tigers the most challenging game to date. The final score at the Port of the Pirates was 20-19.
The GHS Pirates played a very close game that went back and forth until the fourth quarter where Pirate running back Isaiah Johnson, using speed and maneuverability, covered 95 yards for a Pirate touchdown off a kickoff return. Pirate head coach Rio Thompson then went for a two-point conversion to win the game.“
