Free Movie – The Majestic Life of Elizabeth II

The second Elizabethan Era ended with the death of Queen Elizabeth II last month. Citizens of the world learned about her life during the ten days of mourning. The Double Six Gallery will present the documentary, “The Majestic Life of Elizabeth II”, Saturday, October 1 at 2 p.m. Movie selection is shown at Ms. Lezlie Smith’s discretion.

Breakaway jackpot! Come join the Grants Rodeo Association for a rodeo that will benefit local high school students looking to enter college. Enter at 5 p.m., rope at 6 p.m.

October 4 Grants/Cibola County Schools Free Developmental Screening

If you suspect your child has learning concerns or issues, including giftedness, and you would like to have your child’s skills screened, please call Desiraye Lopez 285-2643 to make an appointment. The screenings will be conducted on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at the Special Education Complex402 North 2nd Street from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Due to COVID 19, no walkins at this time, please make an appointment. All screenings are free. Parents will be informed of screening results at the conclusion of the screening session. The screening will be conducted by a team of G/CCS employees. Ages 3-21 years old can participate.

October 6 Coffee With the Managers

Come meet the City of Grants, Village of Milan, and Cibola County managers for coffee. This is a forum where community members can hear updates from the managers and get their questions answered directly from the managers. Come to the Coyote Del Malpais Golf Course at 2001 George Hanosh Boulevard in Grants, N.M. at 8 a.m.

October 8 Free movie – “War of the Worlds”

‘50s film, special-effects in “The War of the Worlds” used highly advanced technology that included flying war machines, force-fields and death rays. Scary stuff 70 years ago. Now, movie fans can see those special effects. H.G. Wells’ story can be enjoyed on Saturday, October 8 at 2 p.m. in the Double Six Art Gallery. The Martians will arrive on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Movie is shown at Ms. Lezlie Smith’s discretion.

Cibola County Historical Society Meeting

The Cibola County Historical Society meeting is October 8 from 2-4 p.m. at the History Museum 525 High Street. Speaker Barbara Wesley on how the telephone has impacted our lives.

El Morro Fall Fiesta

Join the El Morro Area Arts Council for a Celebration of Rain, Harvest, and Neighbors at the El Morro Fall Fiesta. Taking place one mile east of El Morro National Monument on Route 53. Starting at 11:30 a.m., there will be drumming and digeridoo, a quartet band, drumming workshops and at 1:20 p.m. The Sillyettes will play. An auction at 2 p.m. and the event will close with the Thunderidge closing, be prepared to dance!

October 15 Art Gallery Youth Activity

Pumpkins, masks, costumes and fun make Halloween a favorite day. The local Double Six Art Gallery will provide a youth activity on Saturday, October 15, beginning at 2 p.m. Call Robin or Ian at 287-7311 for more details. The arts are for everyone!

Have you ever wished you were invisible? Did you have an invisible friend when you were younger? Being invisible is a topic of the classic film, “The Invisible Man,” set in England. Join movie fans Saturday, October 22 at 2 p.m. in the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 6 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Invisible movie lovers are welcome, too. The Northwest New Mexico Solid Waste Authority accepts Number 1 and 2 plastic, paper, and cardboard. Locations include Smith’s grocery, Roosevelt Avenue, Grants; John Brooks Supermarket, Highway 66, Milan; and Milan Transfer Station, 2305 W. Highway 66, Milan. Locations are open from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday-Friday; Transfer Station: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. No Saturday Hours, call 505-905-8400 or 505287-4150.
