The Cibola Amateur Radio Club of NM LLC KE5FYL is having a monthly meeting on 04-20-23 at 6 PM at Rosie’s Restaurant in Grants, NM at I-40 Exit 81. The Public is invited to attend for video presentations and other information on how to acquire an amateur radios license and the new GMRS license which requires no testing and can be used by the whole family. Visitors wishing to arrive early may wish to order from the restaurant menu before the meeting starts at their own expense. Radio skills are a safety net for anyone wishing to have other means of communication in the event of a disaster when cell phone and internet services, or activities in wildness areas where cell phones services often do not work.

April 22 Free Movie – “I Confess” The Double Six Art Gallery will show the final movie to honor Anne Baxter this Saturday. “I Confess” is scheduled for April 22 at 2 p.m. Gallery location is Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Montgomery Clift costars with Ms. Baxter.

Grants Community Cleanup If you cannot make it to the clean-up, take pride in cleaning up your own yard or neighborhood. Trash containers will be placed at the following locations: Elm Park at 1150 Elm; San Jose Park at San Jose Dr.; MOC at 1400 Lobo Canyon Road; Police Department at Roosevelt; Kiwanis Park at Corner of Melvin and Vernon; Mirabal Park at Gabaldon Hill; Future foundation Center at 549 Washington; Wells Park at 800 Sakelares Boulevard. No Dumping of tires, oil, paint or hazardous materials will be allowed.

April 24 Grants Animal Services Board

The animal services board will meet at 1 p.m. on April 24 at the City Hall Council Chambers, 600 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Agendas will be available April 21.

April 29 Free Youth Activity – Mobile Making

Balance is a structural necessity for mobiles. Join young artists at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 29 at the Double Six Art Gallery as they make one-of-a-kind, artful mobils. Remember – the arts are for everyone!

May Movies

Parenthood is the highest calling for planetary inhabitants! Next month, American mothers will be honored The Double Six Art Gallery will show two movies to highlight motherhood. First, Michael Keaton is “Mr. Mom” and Greer Garson is “Ms. Miniver” Bring your mother. “Mr. Mom is featured Saturday May 6 at 2 p.m. “Ms. Miniver”, May 20 at 2 p.m.

May 1 Career/Job Fair in Grants Upcoming Career/Job Fair on May 1 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The event will be at NMSU-Grants in the Fidel Gymnasium. We hope to see you there!

May 6 Free movie – “Mr. Mom” “Mr. Mom” is about a man who loses his job. His wife becomes the bread-winner while he stays home, keeps house, and cares for the children. Enjoy Michael Keaton and his funny actions as “Mr. Mom”. Showtime is 2 p.m., Saturday, May 6 at the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Join movie fans and bring a photo of your mother.

May 20 Free Movie – “Ms. Miniver” Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon co-starred in eight films together. “Ms. Miniver” is one of Garson’s most memorable movies. This film is credited with helping the United States enter WWI. It focuses on a British family. Saturday, May 20 is the date, 2 p.m. is the time and the Double Six Art Gallery is the place. Attend and bring a picture of your mom.

June 2 Free Music

Bach, Scarlatti, the Beatles and Mozart are composers whose work will be heard in early June at the Double Six Art Gallery. The medium is classical guitar and the date is Friday, June 2 at 6 p.m. More details next week. Remember – the arts are for everyone!
