April 29 Free Youth Activity – Mobile Making This Saturday, April 29, the Double Six Art Gallery staff will host the young and young-at-heart to construct a mobile. This moveable art form is popular and attention-getting but must be balanced. That’s the challenge. The fun begins at 2 pm and gallery location is Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. The arts for everyone!

Parenthood is the highest calling for planetary inhabitants! Next month, American mothers will be honored The Double Six Art Gallery will show two movies to highlight motherhood. First, Michael Keaton is “Mr. Mom” and Greer Garson is “Ms. Miniver” Bring your mother. “Mr. Mom is featured Saturday May 6 at 2 p.m. “Ms. Miniver”, May 20 at 2 p.m.

May 6 Free movie – “Mr.

Mom”

At age five, Michael Keaton, was impersonating Elvis Presley. He cut out Hershey bar wrappers, licked them and stuck them on the sides of his head like sideburns. At age 64, he earned the academy award as the Best actor. At age 32, he starred in the domestic comedy, “Mr. Mom”. This film will be shown Saturday, May 6 at 2 p.m. in the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Bring a photo of your mother to celebrate Mothers in May.

May 20 Free Movie – “Ms. Miniver”

Scottish actress Greer Garson was a red head who was unpopular and lonely as a child. Respiration weakness led her to reading a lot. She became a respected actress. Movie fans will see her as “Ms. Miniver” Saturday, May 20 in the Double Six Art Gallery at 2 p.m. Location is Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Avenue. Celebrate mothers by brining a photo of yours.

May 21 Fire and Ice Dance Gathering

Save the date for the Fire and Ice Native American Art and Dance Gathering on Saturday and Sunday, May 20 and 21, 2023, at El Malpais National Monument. This free event will run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm each day at the El Malpais Visitor Center located at 1900 East Santa Fe Avenue in Grants, NM.

June 2 Free Music

If you know these musical artists, you know what instruments they play: Andre Sergovia, Julian Breem, Australian John Williams, Augustin Burrios and Fernando Sor. Yes – their artistry is heard on a guitar and features classic music. Citizens will be treated to a concert Friday, June 2 at the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave. Music begins at 6 p.m. to start your weekend. No admission fee.

Actor Robert Duvall stars as a Marine officer in “The Great Santini”. Duvall’s father was a Rear Admiral in the Navy. Duvall served in the Army and lived in all sections of the country. This film will be shown Saturday, June 3 in the Double Six Art Gallery on Route 66 / 1001 W. Santa Fe Ave.
