Part II Plot-line A bit about the movie “The Painted Hills” An aging prospector lives in the CA hills during the gold rush days. He’s sure gold is to be found. At Christmas, he and his dog visit the young godson, whose father recently died. The boy and miner return to the hills. A crooked businessman suspects a gold strike, befriends the prospector and young boy AND plans to steal gold. The old miner suspects danger and sends the boy back home. One murder and a near-murder occurs. You’ll meet kind, Indigenous people and a doubting pastor. Join other movie-goers Friday, May 22 at 1 pm in the NMSU Library for the complete Technicolor film.
Part III A famous female who was really Mr. Mom.
An original canine star was supposed to play the dog-companion Shep. BUT, she suffered from excessive shedding. Yes! Lassie was replaced by male relative, Pal. He played both mother and son in “Son of Lassie.” And, he stars in “The Painted Hills.” Famous female dogs include: 1. Terry (ToTo) a Cairn Terrier in ”The Wizard of Oz.”
2. Benjean (Benji) replaced her father in following movies after the original.
3. Perdita (mother) in “101 Dalmations.” Famous real female dogs include: a. Smoky-considered first therapy dog, found during WWII in a New Guinea foxhole. b. Buddy-First, trained seeing eye dog who began program in USA. c. Fala-constant Scottie companion of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. d. Lucca-most decorated, Marine, explosives detection dog. Lost a leg by saving her handler.
