Santa Fe, NM – As the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) may end at the end of April, many are scrambling for alternative and more affordable internet options. The ACP had a tremendous impact on the digital landscape of New Mexico. Launched with the aim of bridging the digital divide and ensuring access to affordable internet for all, the ACP has been a beacon of hope for countless individuals and families across the state. Currently, 183,683 households in New Mexico are currently enrolled in the program.

Since its inception, the ACP has empowered low-income households, students, and vulnerable populations with access to vital online resources, educational opportunities, telehealth services, and employment prospects. Through subsidized internet plans and discounted devices, the program has played a crucial role in fostering digital inclusion and equity, particularly in underserved areas of New Mexico.

'The Affordable Connectivity Program has been instrumental in our efforts to create a more connected and equitable society,' said Drew Lovelace, Acting Director for the Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE). 'By providing affordable internet access to those in need, we have opened doors to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, ultimately empowering individuals and strengthening communities.'

As the program draws to a close, many residents may be concerned about the potential impact on their internet bills. However, there is reassurance in knowing that options are available. Individuals are encouraged to contact their Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to explore pricing options and discuss affordable plans that meet their needs.

'Although the Affordable Connectivity Program may be ending, our commitment to ensuring affordable internet access for all remains steadfast,' added Alison Riley, Public Information Officer for OBAE 'We urge residents to reach out to their ISPs to discuss pricing options and take advantage of available resources so you can stay connected.
