GRANTS, NM — The African Children’s Choir will grace the stage tonight, January 22, at First Baptist Church, located at 224 Mountain Road in Grants.
The performance begins at 6:30 PM, and the entire community is invited to experience this one-of-a-kind event celebrating the choir’s 40th anniversary. Admission is free, with donations appreciated to support the choir’s transformative mission.
For four decades, the African Children’s Choir has captivated audiences worldwide with their vibrant performances of children’s songs, traditional spirituals, and African cultural pieces. Comprised of children aged 8 to 11 from vulnerable backgrounds across Africa, the choir not only showcases the immense talent and resilience of these young individuals but also serves as a beacon of hope for their communities.
A Mission Rooted in Education and Empowerment The choir’s journey began in 1984 when humanitarian Ray Barnett was inspired by the joy and resilience of a young boy who had lost his parents in Uganda’s civil war. Barnett’s vision of using music to inspire compassion and support for Africa’s children has since evolved into a movement that has educated over 59,000 children and provided resources for hundreds of thousands more through its programs.
“The children’s performances are more than just music; they’re a message of hope and resilience,” says Choir Manager Tina Sipp. “Every donation, no matter the size, directly impacts lives by providing education and opportunities that help break the cycle of poverty.”
Attendees can look forward to an evening of energetic, colorful, and deeply inspiring music. The children’s radiant joy and heartfelt performances often leave audiences reflecting on their own lives, as the choir’s spirit transcends cultural and geographical boundaries.
Beyond the music, the event highlights the profound impact of community support. Hosted by First Baptist Church, the choir’s visit to Grants has been made possible through the generosity of local volunteers and organizations, ensuring that the children are cared for during their stay.
While tickets are not required for tonight’s concert, attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to the choir’s mission through a love offering or by purchasing items at the product table. Proceeds support not only the children on stage but also hundreds of other children in Africa, providing them with education and a pathway out of poverty.
A Message of Unity for Grants
This is a rare opportunity for the people of Cibola County to experience the rich culture and inspiring stories of the African Children’s Choir. “Their joy and resilience serve as a powerful reminder of what it means to live in the moment and find hope, even in the face of great challenges,” says Sipp.
Bring your family, invite your friends, and come fill every seat tonight to support this extraordinary mission. Let the African Children’s Choir uplift your spirits and inspire hope for a brighter future.
