GRANTS, NM – Marcus Shane Natan, 22, was arrested and taken into custody following an alleged incident of shots fired on June 8, 2024. Grants Police Department responded to an incident at the Riverwalk Amphitheater on 400 W. High St. after reports of shots being fired.
According to the police report, officers were dispatched to the location at approximately 1:32 A.M. Upon arrival, officers observed individuals walking along a pathway near the amphitheater. Officers approached with their firearms drawn and ordered the individuals, including two females and one male, to get on the ground. The male, identified as Marcus Natan, was found to be in possession of a black semi-automatic handgun and a box of bullets.
According to the report, during the arrest, Natan became combative, verbally assaulting the officers and physically resisting. Despite attempts to calm him, Natan kicked one of the officers, prompting the use of leg restraints. He was eventually secured and transported to Core Civic for further incarceration.
The incident, which prompted a high-priority response from multiple law enforcement agencies, also involved the temporary detainment of two females who were later found not to be wanted for any crimes. The scene was secured, and evidence, including bullet shell casings, was collected and processed by the Grants Police Department.
Natan faces charges of battery on a peace officer, negligent use of a deadly weapon, and unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon. The case remains under investigation, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
