Candy Kitchen Homicide

On July 8, 2023, at around 8:30 p.m. Cibola County Sheriff deputies, along with Ramah Navajo Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the Candy Kitchen area. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, a gunshot victim was located and identified as 36-yearold Edward Torres Jr.

Edward Torres jr. was transported to Zuni and was pronounced dead at Zuni Hospital. During the investigation, 59-year-old Edward Torres Sr. was arrested and charged with an Open Count of Murder and Tampering with Evidence.

As of this time, deputies are still processing the scene and conducting further investigation into the shooting.

Cibola County Sheriff’s Office investigators have determined this was an isolated incident and there are no suspects at large, posing a threat to the community.
