ZUNI MOUNTAINS – While on a hike up the vast Zuni Mountains, Cibola resident Bill Jones came across an unnerving sight: A Chupacabra. The beast was scared away when it noticed Mr. Jones, but the memory stuck with the shocked man.
“I was just hiking on the Bandera Crater trail and I had just passed one of the bat caves when I hear a weird noise and thought ‘what the heck was that?’ what I saw freaked me out,” Mr. Jones said.
The incident occurred just near the Cibola County Ice Caves, on a well-travelled hiking trail. Jones said he didn’t expect to see the beast, but after he disturbed it, it ran off on all four feet.
“It looked kind of like a coyote,” Mr. Jones said, “But it had deep red eyes, and looked like a mangy dog at first. But when it looked at me, I knew it wasn’t a dog.” Jones said the hair on his arms stood up after looking at it.
The Chupacabra is a monster famous to New Mexicans across the state, it’s known for having sharp teeth and its bloodthirsty nature. Famous for hunting livestock, the Chupacabra hunts its prey and sucks out all of its blood. Mr. Jones was fortunate to see this illusive creature and tell the tale.
