Cibola Fire Districts Seeking Volunteer Firefighters

Body

GRANTS, N.M. – Cibola County’s rural fire districts are putting out a call for more volunteers as departments work to keep up with growing demands for emergency and fire services.

Bluewater Village Fire and Rescue has announced that it will be accepting volunteer firefighter applications on Dec. 3, 2025. No prior experience is required.

“We have great training opportunities and provide a good start to new career opportunities,” the department shared. “Volunteer to help your local fire departments protect the communities they serve.”

Those considering the role should understand that it is both physically and emotionally demanding. The work combines firefighting and emergency medical response and often requires late nights, stressful calls, and ongoing training.

Bluewater Village Fire and Rescue is inviting interested residents to text the fire chief at 505-285-8261 for more information about the application process.

Cibola County Fire Marshal Dustin Middleton said the need for volunteers extends far beyond a single district.

“All of our fire departments are always looking for dedicated volunteers. The fire service has had significant declines in volunteering,” Middleton said. “If community members would like to obtain more information about volunteering, they can reach out to their local fire department or the Cibola County Fire Marshal’s Office.”
