GRANTS, N.M. – An inmate with a history of stabbing correctional officers was serving out a sentence at Western New Mexico Correctional Facility when he allegedly stabbed a local prison guard.
Jesus Alberto Robles has a history of stabbing prison guards. According to court documents, while he was being housed at the Chavez County Detention Center in April of 2021, he allegedly used a screwdriver to stab a correctional officer.
Following the alleged incident at CCDC, on the evening of March 8, Robles allegedly stabbed a female correctional officer at the Western New Mexico Correctional Facility, located on 2111 Lobo Canyon Road. Robles was recently transferred to the facility.
A source inside the facility says officers are investigating how exactly the stabbing occurred. It is believed the weapon in question was not a traditional knife, but a weapon Robles allegedly fashioned inside the prison.
Robles is a habitual offender. In 2005 he was convicted of voluntary manslaughter, two counts of shooting at or from a motor vehicle causing great bodily harm, and two counts of aggravated battery. In 2019 he was convicted of committing homicide in Roswell, New Mexico.
New Mexico State Police and the New Mexico Corrections Department are investigating this stabbing. The unnamed correctional officer is recovering at home.
No matter the location, time or date, all people accused of a crime are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
