GRANTS, N.M. – On the evening of March 5, at approximately 8:45 PM, officers with the Grants Police Department responded to a call regarding a physical disturbance at 1108 Gunnison Avenue in Grants, New Mexico. The call was initiated by Jeremey Tom, who reported being punched in the face during a verbal altercation with his wife.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with Tom, who recounted the altercation, mentioning his recent decision to stop drinking and expressing concern that it might exacerbate such incidents. Tom told officers that his wife was still inside the residence.

Officers entered the residence and spoke with the wife, who explained that the dispute arose when she asked her family to assist her with painting the kitchen. According to her, Tom became verbally abusive, leading to a physical altercation during which he allegedly spat on her and pushed her.

The wife asserted that she acted in self-defense, telling police that she inadvertently struck Tom in the face while attempting to defend herself. She mentioned that their children, alarmed by the altercation, sought refuge with their grandmother.

According to the police report, both parties declined medical attention. Officers advised the wife to consider obtaining a restraining order. Subsequently, Tom was taken into custody and transported to the Grants Police Department for processing before being incarcerated at CoreCivic.
