MILAN, N.M. – On Sunday, March 9, at approximately 5:14 p.m., firefighters from multiple agencies responded to a fire near Elkins Park in the Village of Milan. The first unit on the scene confirmed that two detached structures were fully engulfed in flames.
Milan Fire, Grants Fire, Cibola County Fire, and Milan Police Department were all dispatched by Cibola County Regional Dispatch to contain the blaze. Command was established, and as additional units arrived, firefighters were assigned to full suppression and overhaul efforts.
Thanks to calm winds and a swift response, crews were able to immediately contain the fire, preventing any significant spread to nearby structures or vegetation. No injuries were reported.
Milan Fire Chief Daniel Urioste commended the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies. “This was a situation that could have escalated quickly, but thanks to the quick action and teamwork of our firefighters, the fire was contained before causing further damage,” he said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
