BLUEWATER, N.M. — A round of heavy rainfall on Wednesday, July 31, led to localized flooding in Bluewater, prompting warnings from residents and local officials to avoid travel in affected areas.
Photos taken from across the village show muddy water covering yards, driveways, and roads, with standing water reaching fence lines in several places. The flooding made some roads impassable and raised concerns about property damage and safety.
Residents were urged to avoid driving in flooded areas or to use extreme caution if travel was unavoidable. “Drive slow if you can’t avoid the area,” an advisory posted by the Bluewater Volunteer Fire Department said.
According to a 7-day precipitation map from Drought.gov, areas west of Grants received more than two inches of rainfall over the past week, with Bluewater experiencing some of the heaviest localized totals.
Floodwaters have receded, but residents remain on alert as monsoon moisture continues to threaten the region with afternoon storms.
