GRANTS, N.M. – On January 18 the Grants Police Department took a report about stolen property from the Cibola County Forest Service at 206 Smokey Circle in Grants, New Mexico. The Forest Service had reached out to GPD on January 17, officers responded on Jan. 18 around 8 a.m., the service had not called Cibola County Regional Dispatch and secretaries were not in the office at the time to receive the service’s first call.
The Forest Service called GPD on Jan. 17 because workers noticed an undisclosed number of All-Terrain Vehicles missing from their designated location. Officers alerted the Forest Service of the nonemergency dispatch line where people can call about non-emergency situations.
The Forest Service alerted GPD that some of its equipment appeared to have been stolen. Investigators discovered the tracks to at least one pair of boots that led to the location of multiple stolen All-Terrain Vehicles. At least two ATVS were left behind because they would not start, but the rest were taken near the arroyo where GPD found a large section of the fence cut.
As of press time, GPD could not identify when items were stolen from the Forest Service. The stolen items from the Forest Service include but are not limited to:
A Yamaha Grizzly 660 (Tan color)
A Honda Foreman ES (Green color)
A Honda Rancher (Red color)
An undisclosed number of Stihl Chainsaws, totaling $4,800
Craftsman Toolbox and a 320-set piece of miscellaneous tools
A 4x4 Utility hand-built trailer.
