GPD Investigates Threats to Grants Schools

Body

GRANTS, NM – On September 16, 2024, the Grants Cibola County Schools (GCCS) Security Supervisor notified the Grants Police Department about some social media posts that were brought to their attention, concerning schools that were on a target list.

The Grants Police Department investigated the possible threats and determined the threats posted on TikTok were not credible. The Grants Police Department determined there was no danger or threats made directly to any GCCS schools, students, or staff.

The school threats were found to be made primarily through TikTok. The sources of the TikTok posts were determined to be persons from outside of New Mexico and did not have any local ties to the area.

The threatening posts were found to have been reposted and included a list of schools labeled as 'targeted' or 'targets.' None of the GCCS schools were on these lists and originated from states including Missouri and Arizona.

Although the threat was not an active threat against any school in the GCCS District, the Grants Police Department takes these threats seriously and our goal is to ensure all students and staff are safe.

It is important to note that a threat to cause harm on social media is a very serious crime and the Grants Police Department will prosecute to the fullest extent.

The Grants Police Department is committed to remaining vigilant and working together with GCCS to help ensure the safety of our students and staff in the schools.
