GRANTS, N.M, - The Grants-Cibola County School District presented the Grants-Milan Rotary Club a check for $35,000 to go toward the Backpack Program on August 18. The money will be used to send underprivileged children in Cibola a backpack full of food.
Jerrid Williams, visiting Rotarian Barbara Romo, Mohamed Alsaadi, School District CFO Steve Maldonado, Thomas Whelan, incoming member Michelle Eldodt, and Eileen Yarborough celebrate the wonderful occasion.
The Grants-Milan Rotary Club’s backpack program feeds underprivileged students in the district that do not have the ability to eat outside of school. This program works by supplying dry and non-perishable foods home with students. Food insecurity is a serious problem for rural communities, and the Grants-Milan area is no exception. Many students in the Grants-Cibola County School District are considered to be food insecure. The Grants-Milan Rotary Club has been providing this service to Cibola for approximately seven years.
