Grants Robbery with a Deadly Weapon

GRANTS, N.M. – Grants Police Department responded to an armed robbery with a deadly weapon that occurred in front of Grants City Hall on June 15 at 12:23 p.m. Officers arrested Leander H. Tolth on scene for Armed Robbery, Aggravated Assault (Deadly Weapon), and Disorderly Conduct. On June 24 Tolth was indicted on these charges, no trial date has been scheduled.

According to a police report, the altercation started between the victim and a man identified as Leander H. Tolth on June 15 in front of the Grants City Hall. The male victim was enjoying a day in City Hall Park when, as he walked by the caboose project, Tolth allegedly approached the victim and banished a knife. The victim tried running away from Tolth, who allegedly chased the victim around the caboose until finally taking the victim’s backpack, which was full of electronic devices.

The victim walked to city hall and had them contact the Cibola County Regional Dispatch who sent Grants Police Department to the park. Tolth was still in the area when police arrived, one GPD officer recognized Tolth from past arrests. GPD officers canvassed the area but did not find a knife, they patted down Tolth but did not find a weapon on him. The officers arrested Tolth after receiving confirmation that he was the alleged robber.

On June 24, Tolth was indicted by a grand jury for Armed Robbery, a second- degree offense; Aggravated Assault (Deadly Weapon), a fourth-degree felony; Disorderly Conduct, a petty misdemeanor. No trial date has been set for Tolth as of press time.
