GRANTS, N.M. – Three young athletes from Grants earned statewide recognition last month after strong performances at the Knights of Columbus New Mexico State Free Throw Competition in Los Lunas.
According to the Knights of Columbus St. Teresa of Avila Council No. 3683, Jaydn Marquez placed first in his age group, while Keira Munson and Jace Griego each finished third in their respective age groups during the state competition held March 21.
The three local competitors advanced to the state level after winning their age divisions at the St. Teresa of Avila Free Throw Competition on Feb. 15. Their success in Los Lunas came against other qualifiers from across New Mexico.
In a statement, the Knights of Columbus congratulated all of the participants and gave special recognition to the three Grants youth for representing their community well at the state event.
The St. Teresa of Avila Council hosts its local free throw competition each year in late January or early February. The event is open to children ages 9 to 14.
