ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A 57-year-old named Jason Scott Dean was arrested by the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office on September 23, 2021, and appeared in a federal court on February 4 where it was determined he will remain in custody for an alleged Albuquerque, New Mexico, bank robbery. All people are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If convicted in this alleged bank robbery, Dean will face up to 20 years in prison. According to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, Dean allegedly robbed the Bank of the West on Central Avenue in Albuquerque, N.M. According to the United States Department of Justice, Dean allegedly handed a bank teller a plastic bag with a note demanding money. After the teller complied with the note, Dean allegedly fled Albuquerque, N.M. on an orange motorcycle heading West on Interstate 40.
According to court documents, Dean allegedly felt unsafe after the robbery. Fearing for his personal safety, Dean stopped at the Sky City Casino where he approached a member of the staff and asked them to call the police. Cibola County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene where they arrested Dean on a New Mexico State Warrant for Robbery and held him until an FBI Task Force could arrive on scene and take over the investigation, this is because the FBI has jurisdiction over bank robberies.
The FBI Albuquerque Field Office handled the investigation in this case. Assistant United States Attorney Timothy Trembley is prosecuting this case.
