BLUEWATER, N.M, - A fatal ATV accident on July 1, 2018 near Mariano Lake, not far outside the Village of Bluewater, took the life of a five-year-old. According to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, alcohol was a factor in this accident. The five-year-old’s grandfather, 60-year-old Harrison Davis, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, was arrested.
On May 10, 2021, Davis pleaded guilty to manslaughter of his grandchild, who was not wearing a helmet. On April 26, Davis was sentenced to five years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
After the tragic accident, medical records revealed that Davis had a blood alcohol content level of .278 three or four hours after the crash. The grandson suffered blunt head trauma which was determined to be the cause of his death.
The Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office investigated the case.
