MILAN, N.M. — Milan man Leyland McDonald, was arrested early Friday after police responded to a reported stabbing at a home on Uranium Avenue, according to the Milan Police Department.
MPD Chief Carl Ustupski said in an email sent Dec. 12 that officers “reacted quickly” after a stabbing the previous night, providing initial aid until EMS arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital and “is recovering,” Ustupski wrote, adding that police obtained a search warrant and arrest warrant, leading to the arrest of one male early Friday morning.
In a press release, MPD said officers were dispatched around 7 p.m. Dec. 11 to an address on Uranium Avenue for a reported stabbing, it was not known at the time of dispatch whether the suspect was still on scene.
When officers arrived, they found a 24-year-old man suffering from a stab wound and bleeding, police said. Officers observed “several areas inside the residence covered in blood,” according to the release.
After the scene was secured, EMS arrived and began treating the victim, who was later transported to the hospital.
MPD said officers initially received conflicting accounts about what led up to the stabbing.
After interviews, police determined the victim and his brother, Leyland Mc-Donald, were playing video games when an argument began and escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, police said, Mc-Donald allegedly stabbed his brother in the side.
Police said they obtained a search warrant to collect evidence from the residence and arrested Mc-Donald, transporting him to the CoreCivic facility.
The press release said he was charged with aggravated battery against a household member. Police also said the victim was treated at the hospital and later released.
