Milan and TBK Bank work to better the village
MILAN, N.M. – TBK Bank proudly presented the Village of Milan Board of Trustees with the keys to their building on Route 66. The building, located at 609 W. Highway 66, was presented to the village on February 24 at 2 p.m.
Senior Vice President of TBK Bank Clemente Sanchez and his team presented the keys to Village of Milan Mayor Felix Gonzales. The building will be the new Village Hall.
Mayor Gonzales was joined by Trustees Vivian Brumbelow, Christopher Archuleta, and now former-Trustee Ellen Baca. The event was Trustee Baca’s final event as a representative of the village before retiring to rejoin the ranks of private citizenship.
The large building will see minor repairs, specifically on the roof, Mayor Gonzales and VP Sanchez said, before it eventually becomes the new Village of Milan government hall. “Look at this, right on Highway 66,” the mayor beamed, adding, “There is a drive through here too, so people don’t have to get out of their car to pay their water bill.”
As part of an agreement with TBK Bank to accept the building, TBK’s ATM will remain at the building for public use, even when it becomes a government building.
The trustees were excited about the new building, saying that it will be a project which may take a few years. While plans are not yet confirmed for the current village hall, Mayor Gonzales remarked that turning it into a historical museum is a potential. The Milan Police Department is expected to maintain their current office space. In 2018 the board of trustees looked into the cost and possibility of building a new village hall, this new partnership with TBK bank is expected to save the village millions of dollars in costs required to construct a brand-new building.
