The Value of Volunteering

From July 2022 through June 2023, Grants MainStreet clocked 634.5 hours of volunteer time. That time is made up of board meetings, committee meetings, special events, and other projects/ programs. Independentsector. org values New Mexico’s volunteerism in 2023 at $27.38/hour. You could add $100+ of value into our town by volunteering one hour four days out of the week!

This is just ONE organization bringing real value back into Grants. Think about the other organizations like the Chamber of Commerce, Arts Council, Historic Society, Rotary, Community Pantry, Crime Stoppers, all the churches AND MORE who sacrifice their time to enrich everyone else. All of these organizations and their members care deeply for the success of businesses and individuals in this community. If you are reading this and not planning to do your part, why not?

It is these organizations and our gracious City of Grants that make events like this past weekend possible. I know that everyone loves to enjoy the vendors, bounce houses, live music, and activities, but more than the money spent to make it happen is the time it takes to plan, coordinate, and execute these events.

These community events and programs are almost always hosted on the backs of volunteers.

I want to thank anyone and everyone who takes their time to be a part of these crucial institutions and organizations. Moreso, I want to invite more people in Grants to share in the love of labor, join an organization whose mission you're passionate about, and help our town rise up in the ranks of “Best Cities to Live in” or “Best Cities to Visit”. It is not one organization, one city department, or one individual's job. We are all accountable to making this city a place we can all enjoy.

Your bootstraps are calling, what are you waiting for?
