MILAN, N.M - On Saturday, October 11, the Milan Police Department drove around the village, handing out packages to the displaced. This initiative is in honor of Andrew Martinez, a musician and activist who passed away in 2019.
The local police department carries forward his legacy of community service and outreach by initiating this program three years ago. It focuses on providing support to displaced people.
Last year, the department was able to identify and assist around eight individuals in need, delivering essential items such as food, water, gloves, hand warmers, travel kits and more, that were donated by Walmart.
The leftover packages are put in officers vehicles, allowing them to offer immediate help to someone in need.
