Prewitt Car Crash

PREWITT, N.M. –

A 65-year-old man lost his life on Interstate 40 near Prewitt on April 5. The accident occurred around 2:30 a.m. near mile marker 67. Seatbelts were properly utilized by both vehicles involved, and the New Mexico State Police is currently working to determine if alcohol was an influencing factor in this accident. A 2015 Chevorlet Malibu car was travelling Westbound when it parked in the roadway. Not far be hind the Malibu, a 2022 Peterbilt semi-truck was travelling Westbound and struck the parked Malibu.

The driver of the Malibu, identified as James Culbertson of Indiana, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The driver of the semitruck was not identified by the NMSP because no charges have been filed as of press time. The New Mexico State Police are actively investigating this case.
