The Grants Police Department would like to inform the citizens of the City of Grants about a new scam call that is making the its way through the local area.
It has been brought to our attention that there are citizens receiving scam calls from subjects impersonating or identifying themselves as Officers employed by the City of Grants Police Department.
The scam calls involve a subject calling your phone (sometimes with the City of Grants Police Department administrative number), where they identify themselves as an Officer employed with the City of Grants Police Department (sometimes by name), and they then advise you that they have a “complaint” filed against them. In most cases, the subject calling has been described as having a foreign accent.
In most cases, the City of Grants Police Department will not call you and advise you that you have a complaint being filed against you. While we will sometimes conduct telephonic follow ups to active cases, the City of Grants Police Department will more than likely follow up with you in person, as it is better to obtain an in-person statement than a telephonic statement.
As mentioned in a previous notice, do not give any personal information out to anyone over the telephone, unless you can confirm the identity of either the person or the business requesting the information. Lastly, if you suspect you are a victim of a spam call, please call and request to speak to a law enforcement officer.
