Stabbing in Milan

On June 18, 2021, at 4:00 PM Officers were dispatched to area of Elkins Rd. and Howie St. in reference to a fight in progress.

Officer Howard arrived on scene and encountered two female subjects on the side of the road arguing and about to engage in a fight. Officer Howard separated the female subjects. It was determined that the victim thought she had been stabbed. Officer Howard examined the victim and found several tears in her clothing and several open lacerations on the left side of her body. It was later determined that the victim was stabbed four times. The victim advised Of

The victim advised Officer Howard she was walking on Elkins Rd. when she encountered Luann Begay. As the victim approached Ms. Begay, she attempted to shake her hand. Ms. Begay attacked the victim. The victim stated several witnesses yelled for them to break it up.

The victim stated she was able to stand up and she noticed Ms. Begay was holding a knife in her hand. The victim believed she was stabbed several times by Ms. Begay, which was later confirmed by Officer Howard.

Ms. Begay was patted down by Sgt. Carlos Vallejos for weapons and a knife was in her pocket. Ms. Begay initially provided Officers with a fake name and was later identified as Luann Begay by the victim. Ms. Begay was concealing her identity because she had two outstanding arrest warrants. The warrants were from the Grants Municipal Court for failure to appear on obstructing/resisting arrest and the Thirteenth Judicial District Court failure to appear for child abuse.

During the investigation Ms. Begay told Officer Howard “She got what she deserved!” Ms. Begay also stated the attack on the victim was revenge for killing her uncle a couple of years ago.

Ms. Begay was booked into Cibola County Corrections Center in Milan, NM on the Charges of:

1. Aggravated battery with great bodily harm a 3 rd degree felony

2. Concealing Identity 3. Thirteenth Judicial

3. Thirteenth Judicial District Court Warrant (child Abuse)

4. Grants Municipal Court Warrant (Obstructing/resisting police).
