CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. - On October 16, 2025, a traffic stop resulting in the the arrest of Kenneth Romero was conducted on NM 177 near the Exit 89 overpass by the Cibola County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Deputies.
According to a post by the Cibola County Sheriff’s Department, this traffic stop resulted in finding a vehicle driven by a wanted fugitive for burglary, Romero, and taking him into custody. During the search, K9 Cody was deployed for a free-air sniff and alerted them to the presence of narcotics. There, they found 819 Fentanyl pills, eight grams of methamphetamine, and a handgun.
This case remains under investigation, and additional charges are pending. In the post, Sheriff Larry D. Diaz commended the continued efforts of the Narcotics Division and K9 Unit in keeping dangerous drugs out of Cibola County communities, writing “Our deputies continue to work tirelessly to keep these dangerous drugs off our streets.'
