Dear Editor,
First and foremost, kudos to Mr. Henry Lackey for taking the initiative and making an attempt to revive the Fire & Ice Bike Rally.... news flash Mr. Lackey... you did it! Thank you, the city of Grants should be knocking on your door to show their appreciation. It is an admirable stroke of foresightedness to even have the desire to want make such an attempt. A big round of applause should also be given to American Legion Post 80 for hosting their event this weekend; you added so much to the success of "the bike rally".
There was excitement all along Santa Fe Avenue to see and to hear the roar of bikes coming and going. Even if you are not a motorcycle enthusiast, you have to admit that it was a good thing for our community, to see a little bit of an increase to our economy. A couple of negatives also played a big part in the overall scheme of things....so many of our local merchants sit, moan and groan about how the community does not support me, why should they when you do not put forth any effort to support the community? You have to give a little to get a little back, why not make an effort to help each other to make such an event bigger and more successful, use your parking lot to put out some refreshments, some music, anything to show how much we appreciate the visitors that were here feel welcome. I know, it's easier to just complain that you were not invited to participate. This event was general knowledge throughout town, so that complaint doesn't work this time.
Others that were nowhere to be found were the Chamber of Commerce, Grants Main-Street, Economic Development, City Government, or the County Government, again in most cases unless they want funding or votes they cannot be found… typical Grants!
But back to Mr. Lackey and his Junkyard Brewery, you did a fine job, you did have help; thank you Sky City Casino, ya'll did a good thing, and Grants should be proud and very appreciative of you! Hopefully next year will be bigger and better.
Respectfully,
Eddie Sandoval
