As Halloween approaches, Cibola County is getting ready for a weekend full of fun, frights, and family- friendly festivities! Whether you're into haunted houses, stargazing, or a good old-fashioned trunk-or-treat, there's something for everyone. Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s Halloween events.
Begin your Halloween adventure early, start Halloween trick-or-treating by visiting the Grants Police Department from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. for a Halloween kickoff with your local officers. Head over, say hi, and pick up some candy before diving into all the evening’s festivities.
Stepping into the haunted underworld at the New Mexico Mining Museum’s Haunted Mine Experience! Located at 100 Iron Avenue in Grants, this spine-chilling journey will take you deep into the mines, with an eerie atmosphere that’s sure to keep you on edge. This two-night event will run from October 30 to Halloween night itself, from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. Admission is just $6, and all proceeds go toward supporting the museum’s work. Prepare to face the dark unknown underground—if you dare!
For something a little less haunting and a bit more cosmic, head over to the El Malpais Visitor Center on Halloween night for the Spooky Star Party. Join the El Malpais Park Rangers for an evening of stargazing under the clear night sky at 1900 East Santa Fe Avenue, starting at 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 7, so you’ll have plenty of time to get cozy with your telescope. Kids (and adults!) are welcome to come in costume to receive Halloween treats, and rangers will be sharing stories about the constellations, making this a magical and informative night for all ages.
Animal lovers won’t want to miss the Howl-OWeen celebration at the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary.
From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., tune in to their Facebook live stream to get a closer look at the wolves and learn from the sanctuary’s staff. The event promises a few surprises and a raffle, making it a memorable and unique way to celebrate the season.
For those seeking maximum scares, the Knights of Columbus Five Nights of Horror Haunted House is back, and it’s scarier than ever. Located at the corner of Solace and Roosevelt at 1601 East Roosevelt, this haunted house gradually intensifies each night, building up to Halloween’s ultimate fright level. With an $8 entry fee, this terrifying experience benefits the Grants Coats for Kids program, and you can save $3 on admission by bringing two canned goods for the community pantry. Each night has a different fright level, so pick your scare—or come for all five! Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
If your Halloween plans are all about the treats, Grants Public Library is hosting its annual Trunkor- Treat on October 31. From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., the library at 1101 North First Street will be brimming with candy and Halloween fun. They’ll be handing out treats until supplies run out, so don’t wait too long to join in the festivities. For more information, you can contact the library at 505-287-4793.
For even more candy and costumes, make a stop at the Potter’s House Church Trunk-or-Treat at 342 First Street, which runs from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Whether you’re looking for scares or stargazing, candy or costumes, Cibola County has it all this Halloween.
Stay safe, have fun, and enjoy all the spooky season has to offer!
