ALBUQUERQUE — A Zuni Pueblo couple who violently attacked a man in his home while two children and a witness were present has been sentenced to federal prison, U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison announced this week.
Shannon Concho, 47, and LouAnn Johnson, 29, were sentenced for the September 2023 assault, which took place at the victim’s residence on the Zuni Pueblo.
According to federal court records, the incident began as a verbal dispute but quickly escalated when Johnson repeatedly slapped the victim, identified in court documents as John Doe.
Concho and Johnson then prevented the victim from calling for help by seizing his phones and attempting to enter a bedroom where the witness and two minors had taken refuge, prosecutors said.
The assault intensified when Concho struck John Doe over the head with a chair, nearly knocking him unconscious. At Concho’s direction, Johnson, wearing boots, kicked the victim in the head, court records show. Concho allegedly continued the attack until Johnson alerted him that law enforcement had been contacted.
The pair fled the scene before they were later apprehended in Arizona.
Concho was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison. Johnson was sentenced to 24 months. Both will face three years of supervised release after completing their sentences. Under federal sentencing guidelines, there is no possibility of parole.
The case was investigated by the Gallup Resident Agency of the FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office, with support from the Zuni Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jesse Pecoraro prosecuted the case.
