CIBOLA COUNTY, N.M. – This report seeks to track the flow of water in Cibola County. Bluewater Lake and the Rio San Jose both have United States Geological Survey monitoring stations where this data is pulled from.

Bluewater Lake continues its seasonal decline, now holding 5,010 acrefeet of water as of 9:15 a.m. on September 8. That’s down more than 150 acre-feet since the start of the month, reflecting the ongoing drawdown of late summer. For comparison, the lake held 5,162 acre-feet on September 2 and more than 5,600 acre-feet just two weeks earlier.

Meanwhile, the Rio San Jose measured 1.95 feet on the morning of September 8. The river remains steady at this level, though still running lower than the 2.07 feet recorded last week. These modest drops mirror the persistent drought conditions across Cibola County, which continue to limit inflows to both river and reservoir.

Despite the declines, boating conditions at Bluewater Lake are still listed as “excellent” by New Mexico State Parks.
