You are my redeemer, my lord and king, God of the heavens, the earth and the trees.
When we sing, we sing for thee rejoicing, The creator of thy flowers, and thy bees.
God is like a never-ending sunset, Unique, inspiring, never-ending love.
He is patient and kind, all truth beset, When we ask, his answers come from above. King of the World, everything in between, He shows mercy to the unjust and fool.
His marvels and wonders are still unseen, With his might and his power, he shall rule.
God is the overall King of all Kings, For him all nations and peoples sing.
Author’s Note: I wrote this poem after we discussed “Sonnet 18” by William Shakespeare in our ELA class. I reflected on how Shakespeare uses words to make the beauty of the beloved last forever. I realized I wanted to do the same, but instead of writing about a person, I wanted to write about God. Poetry is a way to honor what is greater than ourselves.
