The Cibola Arts Council Inc., which operates the Double 6 Gallery and Route 66 Vintage Museum in Grants, is kicking off 2026 with a mix of new programs, returning art camps, and several January community events.
In the Arts Council’s January 2026 newsletter, Director Debbie Doggette shared a message reflecting on the close of 2025 and what’s coming next.
“Welcome 2026!” Doggette wrote. “As we say goodbye to 2025 and welcome a brand-new year, I’m excited for all the opportunities coming in 2026.” She noted that Christmas at the gallery brought special visitors along with goodies and music, and she thanked the group’s student carolers.
Doggette also highlighted continued growth for the Council’s performing arts circle, Cibola VYBZ, and announced a new program launching this month: Readers Theatre.
“If you enjoy reading plays, our Readers Theatre will give you the opportunity to read and explore both old favorites and new works by beginning playwrights,” she wrote. The first Readers Theatre meeting is scheduled for Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. at the gallery.
Readers Theatre, as described in the newsletter, is a script-focused form of stage production where participants use voice and small movements to convey emotion and action. The Council noted it’s also a way for aspiring playwrights to receive feedback. Those who have a play they’d like performed are encouraged to contact the gallery to set it up.
Looking ahead to spring, the Arts Council announced a featured exhibit planned for March at the Double Six Gallery, showcasing work by four legacy artists: Joan Sheski, Jonnie Head, Gary Yazzie and John Boomer. The Council said the exhibit will be displayed in its expanded gallery space. A membersonly reception is planned for Friday, March 27, with an opportunity for members to meet and chat with the artists, followed by a public reception on Saturday.

The newsletter also lists several January events and art activities for the community:
