GRANTS, N.M. – A line of demonstrators gathered along a busy Grants sidewalk this week for an anti-Trump protest, holding handmade signs criticizing President Donald Trump and calling for constitutional protections and democratic norms.
Eyewitnesses told The Cibola Citizen the crowd was sizable, with participants spaced out along the corridor as traffic passed. Photos from the scene show a long line of people standing shoulder-to-shoulder at points, some waving at passing vehicles while others held signs overhead.
Messages on the signs ranged from blunt political opposition to broader civic themes. In one photo, signs read “STOP, DUMP TRUMP,” “DUE PROCESS FOR ALL,” and “DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION!” Another sign reads “FREEDOM!” followed by “No monarchs” and “No oligarchs,” echoing “no kings”-style language used in recent protest movements across the country.
Because of deadline constraints and other reporting assignments, The Cibola Citizen did not have a reporter on scene to interview participants or confirm the event’s organizers, start time, or an official attendance estimate. The newspaper is working to gather additional details, including whether the demonstration was tied to a larger coordinated day of action or organized locally.
The protest was peaceful with no disturbances reported by police.
