GRANTS, N.M. – A Prewitt woman is facing federal charges after investigators allege she stabbed a man with a knife during a dispute earlier this month.
According to court records, Naomi Martinez, 24, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, allegedly assaulted a man identified in filings as John Doe on Jan. 6, 2026, causing serious bodily injury.
Martinez is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault resulting in serious bodily injury. She remains in custody pending trial. A trial date has not been scheduled.
If convicted of the current charges, Martinez faces up to 20 years in prison, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison and Justin A. Garris, special agent in charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced the charges. The FBI’s Gallup Resident Agency investigated the case with assistance from the Navajo Nation Police Department and the Navajo Department of Criminal Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael R. Pahl is prosecuting the case.
