Fix Our Forest
Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my deep concern about the climate situation in New Mexico. We are currently experiencing the effects of climate change, including rising temperatures, soil degradation, drier conditions, and most alarmingly, increasingly destructive wildfires. We are losing vital vegetation while overconsumption continues to sharply increase carbon emissions.
For this reason, I strongly support the Fix Our Forest Act (FOFA), now in the Senate after passing the House. FOFA would improve wildfire prevention efforts, reduce the risks associated with these disasters, and strengthen protections for our communities. Healthy forests currently offset about 12% of U.S. carbon pollution, making them essential in the fight against global warming.
I urge our senators, Martin Heinrich and Ben Ray Luján, to support and pass this bipartisan legislation without delay.
Sincerely, Irene Acevedo Albuquerque, New Mexico Enforcing the Law
Dear editor,
In view of the recent actions by federal law enforcement I am unable to accept their justification for them. A little research led to the discovery of an earth shattering fact.
The statute of limitations for illegal entry to the United States happens to be 2 years. That is federal law that they claim to be enforcing.
However I have never heard a single spokesperson mention the length of time the detainees have been here. I am all for enforcing laws if the enforcers themselves aren’t breaking it. Patrick Linn
